About this Playcare
Jenny is a strong and resilient young woman living in a community in La Libertad, El Salvador. Witnessing the lack of early childhood education programs in the area and talking with parents in the neighborhood she saw an opportunity to take care of children and educate them. Her financial situation did not stop her to open a really humble daycare. For years she continued to slowly grow her daycare taking care of children aged 2 to 6 years old. Parents have supported her since day one and thanks to Jenny’s efforts, many parents are able to go to work and earn an income for their families.
Four years ago, the NGO "Operation Blessing" improved her infrastructure by building two small “classrooms” made out of wood. This was a big step for her. The Operation Blessing team has been very supportive by following up on her progress. When we talked to Jenny we learned that she has 40 children in her daycare.
During our visit we identified some issues that haven’t allowed Jenny to continue growing her daycare. The space is limited for up to 25 kids max, the floor isn't straight and has some fissures between each wood plank, making this a risk for the kids. By changing the main gate, we could gain some space to readapt a classroom and make it bigger. The bathroom is a latrine that is too high for kids to reach and can't go to the bathroom in a comfortable way, some hygienic accidents have occurred. The toilet is missing a pit or sewage. The sunlight is the only light the classrooms receive.
Jenny dreams on playing some music and share some educational videos to the kids.
While we were working on planning this project, an awesome salvadoran company called Grupo Delpin contacted us and will be part of the project by also investing in Jenny's daycare!
With your help, Operation Blessing's and Gurpo Delpin's, Jenny will be able to provide a safe space for the 40 kids she currently teaches. She will also begin to apply the Montessori philosophy and materials to allow children to reach their potential. Join us in this new project by laying your brick!
